Two voices, four decades of practice, and a single conviction — that the best interiors are slow ones, assembled with care.
Lloyd Bruce Home Collections is Vancouver's quiet authority on the considered interior — a private gallery of furniture, accessories, and bespoke design counsel from the world's most distinguished houses.
Born and raised in British Columbia.
Robert is an accomplished artist as well as a designer — a combination that, after more than two decades in the industry, gives every Lloyd Bruce interior a particular kind of authorship. The work is rarely duplicated, almost always described as luxurious, and entirely directed by the client.
"The most essential goal," he is fond of saying, "is to understand the customer." Once that understanding is in place — once the taste, the lifestyle, and the temperament of a home are properly read — Robert sets about composing rooms that feel as personal as the people who will live in them. The result is the long, patient evolution of an interior into something that, when complete, could not have been any other way.
Alongside the studio practice, Robert curates his own Signature Collection — fashion-forward furniture, lighting, hand-knotted silk and wool rugs, and accessories produced from his own specifications around the world. Critics have called it "jewelry for the home," and the description fits.
Thirty-seven years in furniture and design.
As co-founder of Lloyd Bruce Home Collections, Douglas brings to the studio a span of experience few in the industry can match. A lifetime of projects — many of them collaborative, all of them at the upper edge of the market — has refined his sense of style and good taste into something both instinctive and exacting.
What stands out, even after all those years, is the obvious passion he still brings to each task. Whether the conversation is about a single chair or an entire residence, Douglas approaches it with the same patient attention to fabric, scale, and the way a room ought to feel. It is, quite simply, the work he loves.
We work in the long tradition of European maisons — where the goal is not to fill a room, but to compose one. Our access to the world's finest wallpapers, fabrics, lighting, and furniture is informed by decades of conversation with ateliers in Italy, France, South America, and the United States.
The studio takes on a small number of projects each year. We believe that interiors built slowly, with care, age more beautifully than those assembled in haste — and that good rooms are, in the end, an act of patience.
Each project at Lloyd Bruce is the work of a small, devoted team — together for many years, by appointment.
Every piece we represent is sourced directly from its maker — Italian, French, South American, American — each with a story we know first-hand.
We accept a limited number of design commissions each year. The work is unhurried by design — interiors compose better that way.
No house style; no template. Each interior begins, and ends, with the people who will live in it — their tastes, their lives, their light.
Whether you are visiting the showroom, planning a project, or specifying a single piece — we would be glad to hear from you.
